Dakin Dairy Farms is a multigenerational family dairy farm that has been milking cows in Manatee County since 1973, making it one of fewer than 150 dairy farms remaining in Florida. Brothers Jason, Garrett, Grant, and Ethan Dakin are the current owners, continuing the family legacy. The farm produces a full line of dairy products including whole, 2%, 1%, fat-free, chocolate, and strawberry milk, plus heavy cream, half and half, buttermilk, egg nog, and cheese curds in several varieties. All milking, processing, and bottling takes place on the farm. The on-site Dakin Moofè market carries farm-fresh milk, ice cream, specialty milkshakes, and local retail products. Dakin Dairy Farms raises grass-fed cows whose diet is formulated and monitored by an on-staff nutritionist, and the herd receives regular veterinary visits. Fresh grass is cut twice daily on a rotational basis and blended with hay, grains, and minerals. Composted manure is applied to more than 250 acres of pasture, reducing the need for added fertilizer and pesticides. Nutrient-rich water captured from the barns is continuously recycled, either back to clean barn floors or as seepage irrigation for the high-protein grasses. Sand from barn bedding is sanitized using solar energy and reused, eliminating the need to harvest new sand. The farm describes its cows' milk as growth-hormone free, and its milk carries a kosher certification.
