Iowa's first urban farm: pesticide-free produce, CSA shares, and community garden plots in Cedar Rapids.
Cultivate Hope Urban Farm is Iowa's first urban farm, founded in 2012 by nonprofit Matthew 25 on land cleared after the 2008 flood. Spanning two acres with a 1,000-square-foot greenhouse, it grows fruits and vegetables without pesticides or herbicides in Cedar Rapids' northwest neighborhood. Produce reaches neighbors through a seasonal CSA program, weekly farm stand markets, the Cultivate Hope Corner Store, and Groundswell Cafe. The farm's Youth Development Program uses the harvest to make bread, jams, and other value-added products. Community garden plots give neighbors without land a place to grow food for themselves and others. The farm also hosts seasonal markets featuring produce, brick-oven pizza, and live music, and offers educational programs for children and adults. Learn more on their About Page.
Cultivate Hope Urban Farm grows all of its fruits and vegetables without pesticides or herbicides. Its CSA shares draw primarily from the farm's own harvest and include produce from other local growers. Discounted CSA shares are available to low-income households, and Urban Farm produce is made available at the Cultivate Hope Corner Store at no cost depending on seasonal availability.
