Diversified family farm offering CSA shares, produce, eggs, beef, and on-farm workshops in Kentucky.
Coulter's Good Earth Farm is a 30-acre diversified family farm in Bloomfield, Kentucky, operated by Chris and Amy Coulter since 2002. The farm grows vegetables, small fruit, tree fruit, and flowers, and raises pastured hens for eggs and grass-fed beef. Shares are available through a main-season CSA (mid-May through September) and a separate Fall/Winter CSA (October through December), with on-farm pickup and Nelson County delivery options. Produce is also sold at Louisville-area farmers markets and through a prepaid market card CSA. The farm hosts a Winter Workshop Series of on-farm classes covering topics such as seed saving, seed starting, and meat chicken processing. Farm internships, group tours, and open farm days round out its educational offerings. Learn more on their About Page.
Coulter's Good Earth Farm uses organic growing techniques with minimal chemical pesticides and fertilizers, relying on crop rotations, green manures, compost, vermicompost, and mulches for soil fertility. Drip irrigation and rain catchment maximize water efficiency. When insect control is necessary, the farm prefers organic methods, and most crops are described as completely pesticide free. The 30 acres include orchards, vegetable beds, perennials, pastures, and natural areas designed to support beneficial insects, plus beehives and dedicated habitat for native pollinators. Animals are integrated into the farm system to add fertility. The farm grows many heirloom vegetable and fruit varieties selected for taste and climate, saves many of its own seeds, and raises most transplants on-site. It also produces heirloom seeds for commercial companies. Permaculture principles guide ongoing development, and waste wood grows mushrooms as part of a broader recycling approach.
