Family-owned lavender farm growing Grosso and Provence lavender, distilling essential oil, and selling lavender-based products on-site.
Clairmont Farms is a family-owned lavender farm in the Santa Ynez Valley, farming lavender since 1998. The farm grows the Grosso variety lavender, prized for its oil, alongside Provence lavender grown for both oil and culinary uses. Visitors can explore the fields and shop at the on-site Little Lavender Shop, which carries essential oils, personal care products (creams, lotions, body butter, sprays, soaps, and shampoos), and culinary products such as lavender teas, honey, salt and pepper blends, and baking spices. Products are also available for purchase online. The property features a driveway lined with olive trees planted by Spanish missionaries and grounds dotted with centuries-old oak trees. Clairmont Farms states that its farm is entirely organic and that no pesticides or herbicides have been used on the property. The lavender is harvested using two methods: the traditional approach of cutting each plant by hand, banding, and hanging the bundles to dry; and machine clipping for the portion destined for oil distillation. After harvest, the cut lavender is sun-dried, thrashed, sifted, and then steam distilled on-site in copper stills at low temperature. The farm produces all of its products on the property.
