Overview
Family-owned chestnut orchard and nursery selling fresh chestnuts and blight-resistant chestnut trees.
Chestnuts In The Ozarks is a family-owned chestnut farm and nursery in Omaha, Arkansas, founded in 2019 by Brad and Sandy Russell. The farm's orchard holds over 3,000 chestnut trees, making it a notable contributor to Arkansas's growing chestnut industry. It sells fresh chestnuts for eating as well as chestnut trees for those looking to establish their own orchards. The farm also grows the Ozark Chinquapin, a native chestnut species. Private farm tours are available for visitors who want a closer look at the orchard. Brad and Sandy Russell are members of Chestnut Growers of America. Learn more on their About Page.
Chestnuts In The Ozarks grows trees from seed each March, selecting from over 40 seedling cultivars sourced from top genetics available in the United States. The farm specializes in hardy, blight-resistant varieties suited to the rocky, acidic soil of the Ozarks. Trees are typically grown to about six feet in their first season, with some reaching up to nine feet. The orchard incorporates pollinator habitat, including native grasses and wildflowers, to support biodiversity alongside chestnut production. The farm also maintains honeybee activity within the orchard during bloom season.
