Burroughs Family Farms is a fifth-generation family farm in Denair, California, with roots going back to 1894. The farm grows almonds, walnuts, and olives for oil, and raises pastured hens for eggs and sheep for meat. Its almond and walnut crops are grown, harvested, and packed by the family on a single farm, never pooled with another grower's. Every acre has been certified USDA Organic farm-wide since 2015. The farm is also the first Regenerative Organic Certified® almond farm in the world, certified at Silver level by the Regenerative Organic Alliance in June 2022, and holds a Regenified certification (2024) and Real Organic Project certification. Sheep meat is available for local pickup at the farm; eggs are sold at Northern California grocers; and almonds, walnuts, and olive oil are available direct from the farm.
Burroughs Family Farms runs a no-till, no-synthetic-inputs system across every acre, using no synthetic pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, or GMOs. Cover crops are seeded each fall between orchard rows to hold soil through the rains and feed it when grazed. A winter and spring sheep flock grazes the cover crop understory rather than mowing it, returning fertility to the soil. Hens live in mobile housing on pasture and are rotated to fresh ground. On-farm compost goes back into the soil instead of purchased inputs. Owl boxes and raptor perches control pests, while hedgerows and flowering borders support pollinators and beneficial insects. Almonds are harvested off the tree rather than swept from the ground, reducing dust. The farm holds four independent certifications: Regenerative Organic Certified® (Silver, Regenerative Organic Alliance), Regenified, USDA Organic, and Real Organic Project.
