Fresh-market vegetable farm with a CSA, farm stand, and small-scale pasture-raised livestock.
Broadview Farm and Gardens is a nine-acre working farm in the Kishwaukee River Valley, growing fresh-market vegetables as its primary focus alongside a small number of livestock. The Brown family started the farm in 2014 with the goal of growing food for their family and the surrounding area, and has continued to refine its practices since. Produce is sold through a weekly or biweekly Salad Bowl CSA, an on-farm farm stand, and stalls at several regional farmers markets. The farm also sells through select local restaurants and retail partners. Heritage-breed hogs, sheep, laying hens, pastured broilers, and a beef herd round out what the farm raises. Learn more on their About Page.
Broadview Farm and Gardens raises its animals outdoors, selecting heritage breeds well-adapted to the local northern Illinois climate. Livestock on the nine-acre farm include heritage-breed hogs, sheep, laying hens, pastured broilers, and a beef herd. The farm describes practicing rotational grazing and working to restore and maintain pasture. Produce is grown in the deep sandy loam soils of the Kishwaukee River Valley, which the farm notes are well-suited to high-quality fresh-market vegetables. The farm grew out of a deliberate, multi-year process of land restoration before moving into full-time production.
