Father-daughter grain and dry bean farm in northern Illinois
Breslin Farms is a father-daughter operation founded in 2010 by John Breslin and his daughter Molly, growing row crops on 87 acres of family farmland in northern Illinois. The farm concentrates on small grains and edible dry beans, with the goal of putting local staple crops on local plates. Additional crops have included sweet corn, soybeans, and small-scale vegetables and fruits. Both founders came to farming through hands-on experience with organic growing, and the farm grew out of a shared observation that locally grown flour and beans were largely unavailable at Chicago-area farmers markets. The farm uses heirloom varieties and saves its own seed whenever possible. Learn more on their About Page.
Breslin Farms maintains a diversified crop rotation, which the farm describes as healthy for the land. It uses heirloom varieties and saves its own seed whenever possible. The farm was certified organic by MOSA (the Midwest Organic Services Association) from 2012 through 2025.
