Second-generation family farm with U-pick, a bakery, smoked meats, hard cider, and seasonal farm experiences
Avila Valley Barn is a second-generation family farm owned and operated by the Smith family in San Luis Obispo. Its roots go back to 1986, when Debbie Smith began selling fresh produce sourced from local farms on the property. In 2019, twins Jake and Jesse Smith and Jake's wife Raven took over, continuing the farm's traditions while adding hard cider production to the operation. The farm offers a produce floor stocked with fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, a bakery known for its hand-rolled pies and seasonal baked goods, a Chicken Shack and Smoke House serving fried chicken and slow-smoked meats, a Sweet Shoppe, and a corn roaster stand. Guests can also take part in U-pick harvests, tractor hay rides, pony rides, a hay maze, and animal feeding corrals. Private party bookings and school field trips round out the experience. Learn more on their About Page.
Avila Valley Barn grows its own fruit in on-site orchards and operates seasonal U-pick fields for crops including apples and pumpkins. The farm also sources fresh produce directly from local farms to stock its produce floor. Raven Smith oversees hard cider production at the farm. The bakery prepares pies with hand-rolled crusts in its on-site kitchen.
