Fifth-generation sheep farm raising Ontario lamb in the Ottawa Valley.
Alder Creek Farm is a fifth-generation family sheep farm producing Ontario lamb in the Ottawa Valley. The farm runs a flock of about 80 ewes, most of them born and raised on the property, across roughly 200 acres of pasture, tillable fields, and woodlot. Lamb is available by the cut, including rack of lamb, leg of lamb, lamb chops, shanks, ground lamb, stew meat, liver, and honey garlic sausage. Customers can also order a half or whole lamb. The farm welcomes visitors and is glad to pair first-time buyers with a cut, a recipe, and cooking guidance. Alder Creek Farm has been involved with the Upper Ottawa Valley 4H Sheep Club, helping introduce young people to sheep farming. Learn more on their About Page.
The sheep graze freely on pasture, with the flock rotated across the farm's fields. Alder Creek Farm makes its own hay and silage, a mix of red clover, orchard grass, and timothy. The flock provides natural fertilizer for the land. Lambs are finished with corn and grain. A guardian llama lives and grazes alongside the flock to deter predators, and a herding dog assists with bringing the flock in from pasture. The farm keeps most of its animals as homebred stock, with the majority of the ewes having been born and raised on the property.
