Family-run fruit and veggie farm selling fresh produce, pickles, jam, pesto, kimchi, hummus, and prepared foods at farmers markets.
Aeroponic tower farm growing pesticide-free living lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers — sold at farmers markets.
Vermillion Farms is an aeroponic tower farm operating out of a 4,300 sq. ft. environmentally controlled greenhouse with over 100 growing towers. We grow living lettuce (butterleaf and romaine, sold with roots attached), Roma tomatoes, and cucumbers — all without pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides. Our produce is described as "beyond organic." Living lettuce is sold with roots intact, which allows it to last up to 3x longer than rootless lettuce. Orders are hand-picked the day before your farmers market pickup. We sell at five pickup locations across the Austin area on weekends, and pre-orders are available to secure your produce in advance.
Vermillion Farms uses aeroponic tower gardening inside an environmentally controlled greenhouse. Seedlings begin in a mineral-rich, continuously flowing water bath solution. Once sprouting, they are moved into towers that run a rotating irrigation cycle — 3 minutes of drip irrigation followed by 12 minutes of air drying — to promote optimal mineral absorption in the roots. The greenhouse uses naturally sourced nutrients and pH-balanced minerals, with no pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides used at any stage. Pest control is handled through ladybugs and other predator insects, and bees are used for pollination. Temperature is regulated using a recycled water cooling wall. The farm also collects rainwater and uses conservative irrigation methods. Compared to open-field production, their methods claim to use 95% less water, 95% less land, and produce 30% more food.
