BC's first certified organic chicken farm, raising free-range chickens since 1992.
Thomas Reid Organic Farms became BC's first certified organic chicken farm in 1992, the result of a family legacy that began when the Reid family brought their agricultural expertise to the West Coast in the 1970s. The farm started by converting a barn and raising 500 organic chickens, with Choices Markets as its first buyer, followed by Whole Foods and others. By the mid-1990s, the operation was fully organic. Today, Thomas Reid Organic Farms produces a range of free-range organic chicken products, including whole chickens, bone-in and boneless cuts, chicken wings, drums, and ground chicken. Its products are available at select grocers across BC. Learn more on their About Page.
Thomas Reid Organic Farms holds organic certification through the Canada Organic Trade Association and Animal Welfare certification at Global Animal Partnership (G.A.P.) Step 3. The farm is also certified Halal by the Canadian Halal Food Certifying Agency (CHFCA). Chickens are raised free-range with access to pastures and are fed a non-GMO blend of corn, soy, and wheat with no animal by-products. The birds are never given antibiotics, hormones, or medications. Chicken is air-chilled after processing. The farm states that its organic practices have helped establish industry standards that are still used in BC today.
