Three-generation family fishery offering wild-caught Alaskan sockeye salmon, halibut, cod, and sablefish.
The Popsie Fish Company is a three-generation family fishery founded by Tony and Gwen Neal of Homer, Alaska in 1987. Each summer, the Neal family works their set net site near the mouth of the Egegik River in Bristol Bay, catching wild sockeye salmon. The company sells that family-caught sockeye alongside wild Alaska halibut, Pacific cod, and sablefish sourced from other Alaska fishermen. Products also include ground sockeye salmon and seasoned sockeye salmon patties. The name honors Tony Neal's father, known to his grandchildren as "Popsie," whose approach to doing things right became the company's guiding principle. Fish is flash-frozen within hours of harvest and ships frozen on dry ice, with no subscription required. Learn more on their About Page.
The Popsie Fish Company uses the set net method, anchoring stationary nets near shore at their Egegik District site in Bristol Bay. The business describes this approach as selective and low-impact, allowing each fish to be handled individually from the moment it leaves the water. All seafood sold is 100% wild-caught and never farmed. The family catches its own sockeye; halibut, Pacific cod, and sablefish are wild-caught in Alaska by other Alaska fishermen. Bristol Bay's salmon runs are managed under state and federal escapement management, which requires enough fish to pass upriver to spawn before commercial fishing begins. Each fish is flash-frozen within hours of harvest to preserve flavor, texture, and nutrition.
