Wild Alaskan seafood market and custom fish processing on the Homer Spit
Coal Point Seafood is a family-owned wild seafood market and processing facility operated by the Hillstrand family, lifelong Alaskan residents with multiple generations of commercial fishing experience. The business sells wild, never-farmed Alaskan halibut, salmon, cod, rockfish, shellfish, smoked seafood, and canned salmon, available in-store and online. It also offers custom fish processing for sport-caught fish, picking up catches directly from vessels or charter offices. The Hillstrand family has fished most Alaskan species and gear types, from Ketchikan to the Bering Sea, and has worked to rehabilitate salmon runs damaged by the Alaskan earthquake from Noatak to Kodiak. Coal Point Seafood sells wild, sustainably sourced, never-farmed Alaskan seafood, buying directly from local Alaskan fishermen. For custom processing, the business portions, vacuum-packs, and flash-freezes each catch to order, with customers choosing package sizes from half a pound up to full fillets or steaks, skin on or off. Fish dropped off before closing are processed and fully frozen by the following morning. The business states a guiding principle of protecting wild fish stocks, summarized in its motto: catch only what you need, leave the rest to breed.
