Certified organic vegetable farm and maker of fermented sriracha, fire-roasted salsa, and giardiniera.
Kitchen Garden Farm is a 50-acre certified organic vegetable farm in the Pioneer Valley, with fields on both sides of the Connecticut River in Sunderland and Whately. Started in 2006 on a single acre of rented land, the farm was transferred in 2023 to longtime employees Lilly Israel and Max Traunstein, who now own and operate it. In addition to growing a wide range of organic vegetables, the farm produces its own line of preserved foods: naturally fermented sriracha in three heat levels (original, habanero, and ghost pepper), two fire-roasted salsas, and an organic giardiniera, all made from crops grown on the farm. The original sriracha is a 2017 Good Food Award winner. Products are available through the farm's online shop, at retail stores, and via wholesale. Learn more on their About Page.
Kitchen Garden Farm holds USDA organic certification through Baystate Organic Certifiers and Real Organic certification through the Real Organic Project. The farm uses only natural products and sustainable growing techniques, with an emphasis on biodiverse crop selection, improved crop rotation, and cover cropping to build soil health. Sriracha is made from fully ripe organic peppers grown on the farm, fermented for several days before being cooked, milled, and bottled with no preservatives. Salsas are fire-roasted in small batches from organic tomatoes, tomatillos, onions, and chilies grown on the farm. The giardiniera is made from certified organic vegetables grown on-site.
