Biodynamic ranch offering raw milk herdshares, produce, meat, and farm education
Sustainable Settings is a nonprofit working ranch and living laboratory founded in 1997 by Brook and Rose LeVan. It became a nonprofit in 2001 and established its permanent home on the ranch it stewards today in 2003. The ranch produces raw milk, vegetables, and meat, and offers herdshare memberships that give members a weekly allocation of raw milk. Beyond food production, the ranch hosts workshops, internships, and public events rooted in its mission to research and demonstrate biodynamic agriculture and resilient local food systems. Sustainable Settings practices biodynamic and regenerative agriculture, with an emphasis on soil health and whole-systems thinking. Profits are reinvested in soil health, education, staff, and community well-being. The farm operates as a research and demonstration site, conducting independent work on biodynamic methods, crop production, soil health, and nutrient density. Herdshare milk production follows the natural rhythms of the herd, with availability shaped by seasonal changes, breeding and calving cycles, and animal health.
