Fifth-generation pasture-raised chicken, pork, eggs, and prepared meals from a Limestone County farm.
Southard Farms is a fifth-generation family farm established in 1876 in Limestone County, Alabama. It raises pasture-raised broiler chickens, laying hens, turkeys, and pork, and sells farm-fresh eggs. The farm began diversifying into pastured poultry and pork production in 2019. Products are available through its online store with on-farm pickup and local delivery, at retail locations including S&J Produce in Madison and Isom's Orchard in Athens, and through select area restaurants. Southard Farms also offers a chef-prepared weekly meal subscription built around its own pasture-raised meats and eggs, paired with seasonal vegetables from local farms. All animals are raised outdoors on a rotational grazing system through pastures and wood lots. Laying hens free-range year-round and rotate across alfalfa fields every two to four weeks, with electric netting for predator protection and hand-collected eggs. Broiler chickens spend their first three weeks in a brooder, then move to portable pasture shelters that are relocated daily onto fresh grass. The hog operation is a closed, farrow-to-finish herd: every pig is born on the farm and rotates through woods and pasture for its entire life. Feed for all three animal types is made on the farm without preservatives, using farm-grown alfalfa, wheat, and soybean meal. Southard Farms is a member of the American Pastured Poultry Producers Association.
