Certified organic, biodynamic farm growing tender fruit, berries, heirloom vegetables, and melons in Ridgeville.
Rumar Farm is a second-generation certified organic farm operated by Ruth Gatzke and Marc McKerracher at 219 Canboro Road in Ridgeville, Ontario. The farm grows tender fruit, berries, heirloom vegetables, and melons on a property with deep family roots. Ruth and Marc took over from Katherine and Alfred Gatzke and became certified organic in 2017. Produce is available through an online shop, a self-serve on-farm kiosk, a seasonal CSA program, and the farm also sells seeds, dry herbs, and plants. Learn more on their About Page.
Rumar Farm is certified organic and uses biodynamic farming principles developed by Rudolf Steiner in 1924, which treat soil fertility, plant growth, and livestock care as ecologically interrelated. A minimum of 10% of the land base is set aside as a biodiversity reserve to support wildlife and endangered species habitat. Soil fertility is maintained through green manure, crop rotation, and the planting of legumes and nitrogen catch crops. Disease, insect, and weed pressures are managed through crop rotation, plant diversity, timed plantings, mulching, and stale bed planting. Biodynamic preparations, described as healing remedies for the earth, are also applied as part of this approach.
