Second-generation pecan farm growing paper shell varieties on the Brazos River.
Rascoe Pecans is a second-generation family-owned pecan farm founded in the 1980s by the late Frank L. Rascoe on the banks of the Brazos River near Waco. The farm grows improved "paper shell" varieties, including Pawnee, Kiowa, and Desirable. Frank's early plantings earned a top award at the Heart of Texas Fair. Today, the farm is managed by Frank's daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Mark Blanpied. Rascoe Pecans sells whole pecans and pecan butter through an online store and at the Waco Downtown Farmers Market. The farm has also partnered with the local non-profit World Hunger Relief, Inc. to produce pecans and train farm interns in organic growing methods.
Rascoe Pecans cultivates its orchard without chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides, following the same methods used since the farm's founding. The farm held Texas Organic certification for many years until 2012, when rising certification fees made renewal unaffordable, and it continues to apply those same organic cultivation practices today.
