Perkins' Good Earth Farm is a family-run certified organic vegetable farm on 20 acres, with 8 tillable acres and 11 acres of woods. Dan and Julie Perkins began farming on the side before Dan transitioned to full-time farming in 2019 after more than a decade of building their CSA. The farm's primary offerings are seasonal CSA shares (Spring, Summer, and Fall), certified organic hardneck garlic (table, seed, and black garlic varieties), and on-farm overnight stays through Harvest Hosts and Airbnb. CSA members pick up produce on-farm and have access to pick-your-own areas, a wooded and prairie walking trail, and a children's play area. Perkins' Good Earth Farm is USDA Certified Organic, inspected annually through OnMark Certification. Growing practices are guided by four soil health principles: maximizing diversity, maintaining living roots year-round, keeping soil armor in place, and reducing soil disturbance through no-till and deep-mulch compost. The farm describes its approach as regenerative rather than defined by a minimum standard, aiming to balance complex relationships within the whole farm system. It is compliant with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), holds GAPS training, trains employees in hygiene and food handling, is SERVSAFE compliant in its farm kitchen, and is approved through the Jasper County Health Department. The farm has partnered with Purdue University on multiple on-farm research trials and has received SARE grants for projects including no-till organic seed garlic production and biochar soil fertility research.
