Pasture-raised heritage pork and beef from a 40-acre family farm, sold at a self-service farm stand.
Howe Farms raises heritage pigs and pasture-raised beef on 40 acres in Crown Point, Indiana. Its pig herd is a proprietary cross of Gloucester Old Spot and Berkshire breeds, developed specifically for the farm's environment. Its cattle are primarily Angus/Hereford and Angus/Simmental crosses. Cuts are available by the package at the farm's self-service stand, open Fridays and Saturdays year-round, and as whole, half, or quarter freezer animals ordered online. The farm also works with wholesale restaurant partners. Howe Farms runs its own feed line, Heirloom Feeds, which is sold at the farm stand and through Midwest retailers. Learn more on their About Page.
All animals at Howe Farms are rotated on pasture 365 days a year and have access to shelter. The farm's diet program is a hybrid model: animals graze rotationally and are supplemented with Heirloom Feeds, a proprietary feed formula that is antibiotic-free, hormone-free, and soy-free. The cattle are not 100% grass-fed; pasture grass is available roughly seven months of the year, with the Heirloom Feeds ration making up part of the diet in other months. Dry-aged beef is aged for 30 days at a USDA facility before being cut into steaks. The farm only sells meat it raises itself.
