USDA Certified Organic farm offering fresh produce, soups, jams, pickles, herbs, and elderberry products
Pat and Rachel's Gardens is a USDA Certified Organic farm in Olathe, Kansas, founded by the Leek family. The farm is named after two of the family's children and grew out of decades of family gardening and small-scale farming. Starting on two acres and later expanding to a ten-acre farm, it sells fresh produce alongside a range of value-added goods including freeze-dried and frozen soups, jams and jellies, pickled products, dried herbs, salad dressing mixes, and elderberry products. Customers can shop through the farm's online store or visit it at the Brookside and Overland Park farmers markets. The farm has also partnered with local educational institutions and homeschooling families to offer farm-based learning experiences.
Pat and Rachel's Gardens holds USDA Organic Certification, earned in spring 2013. The farm describes its approach with the phrase "solar, organic, and local." Its research into improving the economics of small-scale farming has been supported by multiple SARE (Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education) grants and a USDA Value-Added Producer Grant.
