Greenhouse-grown vegetable and herb transplants, produce, and flowers from a Cape Cod farm.
Matt's Organic Gardens is a greenhouse and hoop-house farm in Dennis Port run by Matt Ernst, who revived the organic growing operation started by his grandfather Jack Stacy. The farm grows a wide selection of vegetable and herb starter plants for home gardeners, along with seasonal produce including tomatoes, peppers, squash, cucumbers, garlic, and fresh-cut herbs. Tomatoes are a particular strength, with many varieties available. The farm also offers edible flowers, fruit plants, and bagged soil and fertilizer. During the growing season, Matt's Organic Gardens hosts an on-site farmers market where produce is picked at the time of purchase. Learn more on their About Page.
Matt's Organic Gardens grows its produce using Natural Growing Practices, with no GMOs, herbicides, or synthetic inputs. Most plants are started from seed in McEnroe-certified organic soil. High-turnover items such as basil, and slow-growing plants such as rosemary, are grown from organic plugs sourced from Hillcrest Nurseries. The farm practices Integrated Pest Management (IPM), including the use of biological controls: predator wasps are introduced into the greenhouses to manage pest populations. Matt Ernst stays current with research and best practices through involvement with the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA). Seeds are sourced primarily from Johnny's Selected Seeds and High Mowing Organic Seeds.
