Hyperlocal Atlanta apiary producing raw honey, beeswax candles, and bee products from urban neighborhood hives.
Honey Next Door is an Atlanta urban apiary founded by beekeeper Brandon Tai, who has been keeping bees in Atlanta since 2004. The operation manages over 150 hives across more than 15 Atlanta neighborhoods, including Decatur, Buckhead, Morningside, Inman Park, and others. In addition to its urban Atlanta honey, Honey Next Door produces Tupelo honey from the South Georgia swamps and Sourwood honey from the North Georgia mountains. Its product line includes raw honey, creamed honey, elderberry syrup made with organic elderberries, beeswax candles, lip balms, and soap. Products are available through several local Atlanta retailers, multiple weekly farmers markets, and online. Honey Next Door also offers hive removal services. Learn more on their About Page.
Honey Next Door describes its honey as pure and raw: unpasteurized, unfiltered, and not heated even during uncapping. Frames are uncapped with a cold knife and spun in a centrifuge to extract honey without heat. The business sells what it calls chemical-free bee products. Hives are treated with formic acid, an organic-approved miticide, as a targeted treatment for the Varroa mite. Beehives are managed so that honey is harvested only from frames in the honey supers, kept separate from the brood area. Ethical hive management includes leaving sufficient honey reserves for bees through the winter months.
