Yukon's first flour mill, growing and milling barley, wheat, and oat flours and baking mixes.
HinterLand Flour Mill is the Yukon's first flour mill, founded by the Amiot family after years of farming and grain experimentation in the territory. The operation began with livestock under the name Yukon Valley Farm, then shifted to growing feed crops before expanding into grain milled for human consumption. The mill produces flours, ready-to-eat snacks, baking mixes, and breakfast products built around barley, wheat, and oats. Barley is a particular focus, appearing across cookie mixes, brownie mixes, pancake and waffle mixes, shortbread, and steel-cut products. All products have been tested by the Amiot family before going to market. Learn more on their About Page.
HinterLand Flour Mill grows its grains on its own Yukon farm, then mills and packages them in the territory. Years of trialling different grain varieties and crop rotations identified which types of barley, wheat, and oats are best suited to the Yukon climate and its long summer days and short growing season. The mill describes its model as grain grown, milled, and packaged right in the Yukon, connecting local farmers, producers, and consumers. Barley and oats are highlighted as the mill's primary grains, chosen in part for their adaptability to northern growing conditions.
