French-inspired cafe and bakery serving seasonal pastries, sourdough breads, sandwiches, and coffee in Chicago's Lincoln Park.
Floriole Cafe & Bakery began as a stand at Chicago's Green City Market, where owner Sandra Holl and her husband Mathieu sold rustic French pastries out of a 10-by-10 tent. In 2010, the business moved into a brick-and-mortar space in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. Holl trained at the California Culinary Academy and worked as a baker at San Francisco's Tartine before bringing her focus on regionally sourced ingredients to Chicago. The bakery's menu spans seasonal pastries, sourdough breads, sandwiches, salads, coffee, and desserts. Laminated pastries are a signature of the kitchen. Floriole continues to maintain a presence at Green City Market alongside its cafe. Learn more on their About Page.
Floriole Cafe & Bakery sources most of its produce, meats, dairy, and cheeses from sustainable farms in the region. The bakery uses organic flour and organic sugar, Valrhona chocolate, European-style butter, and cage-free eggs. Its French-inspired pastries are rooted in Midwest ingredients, reflecting a commitment to regional sourcing that Sandra Holl brought to Chicago after working in San Francisco's ingredient-focused baking scene.
