Urban vegetable farm with a sliding-scale CSA, farm stand, eggs, cut flowers, honey, and medicinal herbs.
Chicago Patchwork Farms is a vegetable farm that remediates vacant land on Chicago's south and west sides to produce food and create bio-diverse green space in economically and environmentally distressed neighborhoods. Its diverse operation grows many vegetables alongside eggs, cut flowers, medicinal herbs, honey, and preserved foods. The farm sells through a pay-what-you-can farm stand and a sliding-scale CSA subscription with spring, summer, and fall seasons totaling 26 weeks of produce. SNAP/LINK payments are accepted for CSA shares. Beyond produce, the farm hosts farm dinners, tours, workshops, and seasonal cultural events including theater, music, dance, and storytelling. It also offers a community garden, a compost drop-off program, and hands-on agricultural education for Chicago Public Schools students and college interns. Learn more on their About Page.
Chicago Patchwork Farms describes its methods as organic farming practices. The farm operates on remediated vacant urban land, working to transform contaminated city plots into bio-diverse space that includes native pollinator habitat alongside food crops. Its CSA program is byo-bag, and the farm actively works to reduce plastic use and overall waste. A Solidarity Fund allows members and visitors to contribute toward CSA shares for low-income neighbors, restocking a Love Fridge, and donating fresh vegetables to local food pantries and mutual aid distribution networks.
