Urban nonprofit farm growing produce for a Pay-What-You-Can farmstand and free community fridge.
Fairgate Farm is a nonprofit urban farm established in 2011 on nearly an acre of remediated land on Stamford's West Side. It grows fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers described as naturally grown and culturally relevant, distributing them through a Pay-What-You-Can Farmstand and a free Community Fridge. The farm has produced over 500,000 servings of fruits and vegetables for the broader community and has shared more than 100,000 pounds of food through distributions since 2023. Beyond produce, it operates youth education programs, hosts community classes, runs a composting program that has diverted over 100 tons of food waste from landfills, and welcomes volunteers each season. Fairgate Farm also donates fresh produce to local hunger relief partners.
Fairgate Farm was built on five formerly derelict properties that were cleared, remediated, and replenished with over one thousand tons of fresh topsoil before the first crops were planted. The farm describes its produce as naturally grown and clean, and its own mission language identifies regenerative urban agriculture as its guiding approach. Composting is a core on-site practice: food waste collected through its composting program is converted into compost used to enrich the farm's soil.
