Certified organic vegetable farm offering CSA farm box subscriptions and an online market.
Cold Springs Organics is a 105-acre certified organic farm in the Northumberland Hills, northwest of Port Hope. Founded by Farmer Glen Young and partners Adrian and Christie, the farm produced its first harvest in 2021 from a 1.5-acre market garden. It grows over 105 produce varieties, including heirloom and uncommon types not typically found in grocery stores. The farm offers a seasonal CSA farm box subscription running June through October, with weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly options, plus pickup locations and home delivery across Northumberland, Durham, and Scarborough. Produce is also available through an online shop and at the Cobourg Farmers Market on Saturdays throughout the season. Learn more on their About Page.
Cold Springs Organics holds organic certification through CSI (Certification Services International) under the Canadian Organic Standards (COR). The farm grows using organic seeds, organic amendments, and organic methods, rotating crops to maintain soil fertility without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. It applies permaculture principles including companion planting, large flowering hedgerows for pollinators, and swales to capture rainfall and improve soil infiltration. Regenerative agriculture methods such as low-till practices and cover crops protect the soil surface, reduce erosion, and support carbon capture. The farm conducts annual soil testing to optimize soil quality. It also maintains habitat for four threatened bird species, including eastern bluebirds, eastern meadowlarks, bobolinks, and barn swallows, by preserving native biodiversity across its land.
