Sourdough bakery
Bread for the People is an Austin-based sourdough bread operation run by Sarah Stevens and Libbey Goldberg. We bake and deliver sourdough rounds around Austin in exchange for donations, which are directed to charities and organizations supporting communities affected by hardship. Our model pairs bread delivery with fundraising, with donations going toward groups focused on hunger, domestic workers, racial justice, and communities hardest hit by economic and public health crises. Libbey draws on her background as an activist to vet and select recipient organizations, with a focus on people of color, unauthorized immigrants, and impoverished communities.
We bake sourdough bread by hand. Recipient organizations for donations are vetted to ensure funds reach the demographics most affected by the issues being addressed. The operation is run out of a home kitchen, with loaves delivered directly to customers across Austin.
