Benevolence Orchard & Gardens (B.O.G.) is a permaculture farm in Boulder, Colorado founded by Wesley Swartz, a permaculture specialist and arborist, alongside Malaya, who oversees herbal and perennial gardens and farm-made products. The farm grows heritage fruit trees, vegetables, herbs, perennials, and mushrooms across interconnected growing areas. Visitors can shop seasonal offerings at the on-farm Hub stand, which carries produce, multi-colored chicken eggs, local honey, cut flowers, and pantry goods. B.O.G. also runs seasonal CSA programs for mushrooms and cut flowers. Classes in propagation and permaculture skills are held throughout the year. Benevolence Orchard & Gardens grows its orchard using holistic natural practices and does not spray produce with pesticides or toxic products. Heritage fruit trees are cultivated with a diverse understory of symbiotic herbs and plants that bring nutrients and beneficial insects to the soil. Fruit trees are propagated by grafting onto specific rootstock selected for vigor, disease resistance, and suitability to Colorado's soil and climate. The farm's approach to soil building mimics natural land patterns and processes to enrich soil, promote biodiversity, and conserve water by planting on the natural contours of the land. Poultry roam the land and contribute to soil rebuilding while closing the loop on farm waste through composting. A wide variety of edible mushrooms are cultivated and inoculated on-site. Cut flowers such as comfrey, yarrow, and calendula are grown as companion plants to fix nitrogen and support the orchard's polyculture system.
