Home-grown herb blends, teas, and seasoning mixes made without salt, preservatives, or fillers
Backyard Patch Herbs is a woman-owned herb business founded by Marcy Lautanen-Raleigh, who grows, dries, and hand-blends every product herself. The business began with a small kitchen garden and has grown into a three-quarter-acre herb garden developed over more than 20 years. For over 30 years, Backyard Patch has produced salt-free, preservative-free cooking blends, herb teas, dip mixes, marinades, rubs, and mocktail and cocktail kits. Blends are made in small batches using only herbs and spices, with no fillers or chemical additives. The business also offers hands-on workshops and presentations, available in person or virtually, teaching people how to grow and use herbs at home. Learn more on their About Page.
Backyard Patch Herbs grows its herbs without chemical fertilizers or pesticides, using organic growing methods. Plants are cultivated in rows of hills to maintain soil quality and support drought resistance. Herbs are hand-harvested and air-dried using hanging racks for long-stemmed plants and flat screens for smaller herbs and flowers. No commercial dehydrators are used. Herbs are kept whole-leaf until blended to order, and the business states its dried blends stay fresh for 18 to 24 months without preservatives. All herb blends are salt-free and gluten-free, and the business produces its own vegan bouillon for use in soup mixes.
