Three-season farm stand and greenhouse growing vegetables, plants, and cut flowers in Stow, MA since 1981.
Applefield Farm is a three-season farm in Stow, Massachusetts that has been growing vegetables, plants, and cut flowers for over 40 years. Founded in 1981 by Steve and Kirsten Mong, it began as a small apple orchard and roadside self-serve stand before expanding into a full retail farm operation. The farm stand runs from mid-April through the end of October. Spring offerings include a wide variety of annuals, perennials, vegetable starts, and mixed container flower gardens. As the season progresses, field-grown vegetables and cut flowers fill out the stand. Applefield Farm also attends the Maynard Farmers Market each Saturday from late June through the end of September, and supplies wholesale to local restaurants and markets. Learn more on their About Page.
Applefield Farm does not use synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. It farms close to 25 acres of protected, agriculturally-zoned land and is committed to sustainable land use. The farm grows nearly all of the produce it sells, clearly labeling anything not grown on-site, with limited exceptions such as local fruit and occasionally corn. A 14,000-square-foot main production greenhouse uses a geothermal system for most of its heating needs, and solar power supplies nearly all of the farm's electricity. The farm recently added a high tunnel greenhouse to extend the growing season. Compost, potting soil, bark mulch, and organic fertilizer are also available at the farm stand.
