Grass-fed beef ranch on a remote Alaskan island, raised without hormones, vaccines, or confinement.
Alaska Meat Company runs Sitkinak Ranch on Sitkinak Island, a remote island off the southern end of Kodiak Island. The ranch's cattle lineage traces back to 1937, when the first beef cattle were brought to the island. Today the herd roams freely across the island's lush, tree-less grasslands year-round, with no confinement for feeding. Alaska Meat Company sells its beef directly to Alaskan customers as sides of beef, bundles, and ground beef, with whole and half hogs also available. The business is committed to traceable, responsibly raised meat and to strengthening Alaska-grown and Alaska-raised beef supply. Learn more on their About Page.
Sitkinak cattle graze year-round on native grasses sustained by over 70 inches of annual rainfall, with no supplemental grain, hay, or confinement. The animals have never been given vaccines, hormones, or chemicals, and are not branded. They are minimally handled throughout the year. Harvesting takes place on the island using a mobile processing unit, so the cattle are never exposed to undue stress during processing. The business states that this approach produces a grass-fed product that is traceable from ranch to plate.
