Luna Field Farm is a pasture-based livestock farm operated by Wian Prinsloo and Lydia Carpenter on several hundred acres of grazing land in southwestern Manitoba. The farm raises grassfed and finished beef, pasture-raised and free-range pork, and eggs from pasture-raised hens. Wian began farming in 2005 after moving to Canada from Pretoria, South Africa, with an early focus on pastured poultry before expanding to a mixed-livestock operation. Lydia holds a Master's degree in Natural Resources Management and brings a background in rural livelihoods and whole-farm systems to the business. Luna Field Farm uses planned grazing techniques in a multi-species grazing system, moving cattle daily to fresh pasture throughout the grazing season. Calves are born on pasture in late spring and early summer. Pigs are raised in open-air housing and on pasture. The farm's production practices are guided by holistic management, responsible environmental stewardship, and a focus on the health of livestock, pastures, and soils. Lydia and Wian describe their approach through an ecological lens, aiming to build and maintain soil health alongside viable animal husbandry.
