Single-variety Sugarloaf white pineapple farm offering fresh fruit, farm tours, and local market sales.
Kaua'i Sugarloaf Pineapple Farm is a family-run operation on the North Shore of Kauaʻi, where farmers Paul and Jude Huber grow one variety exclusively: Kauaʻi Sugarloaf White Pineapple. The farm, known as Hole in the Mountain Farm, spans 37 acres, with 15 acres planted in Sugarloaf, and currently has over 380,000 plants in the ground. Paul and Jude began planting Sugarloaf in partnership on Kauaʻi in the late 1990s and struck out on their own in 2000, securing their founding propagation stock in 2003. The pineapple is distinguished by its creamy white flesh, fully edible core, and low-acid flavor profile. Fruit, farm tours, and local farmers market appearances are all available, and pineapples can also be ordered online. Learn more on their About Page.
Kaua'i Sugarloaf Pineapple Farm grows only one variety: the Sugarloaf pineapple. Paul Huber holds a degree in Fruit Science from Cal Poly, and the farm draws on decades of hands-on Sugarloaf cultivation. Because edible pineapple does not produce seeds, every plant is propagated from vegetative material, specifically crowns, slips, and suckers, each requiring 18 to 24 months to produce fruit. The farm grows its plants in the rich red volcanic soils of the Moloaʻa peninsula, relying on full sun and well-drained ground. Foliar fertilization (liquid fertilizer applied to the leaves) is used for feeding, as pineapple, being a bromeliad, feeds through its leaves rather than solely through the roots.
