Overview

A multilayered agroforestry food forest growing subtropical fruits, food plants, and medicinal plants on Kauaʻi's north shore.

Kauaʻi Food Forest is a species-rich, multilayered agroforestry project established in December 2012 on a two-acre site in the Kalihiwai watershed on Kauaʻi's north shore. The forest was born from the collaboration of three nonprofit organizations: Regenerations Botanical Garden, Mālama Kauaʻi, and the Sanctuary of LUBOF, with Regenerations leading ongoing design, planting, and maintenance. It grows an wide diversity of food and medicinal plants drawn from Hawaiʻi, Polynesia, Melanesia, the Americas, Africa, India, Asia, and Australia. Canopy and sub-canopy trees, shrubs, ground covers, vines, and root crops form a multistory growing system across the site. The forest also serves as an educational demonstration site for hands-on learning in subtropical agroforestry, and runs a plant sale. Visitors and volunteers are welcome.
