Grass-fed Criollo beef raised on a family-owned Arizona ranch.
Broken Horn D Ranch is a Yavapai County ranch that has been raising Corriente cattle since 2000, growing its herds entirely from home-raised animals. The ranch spans 4,370 acres of private and state-leased rangeland, with a 130-acre headquarters that includes horse stables, hay barns, cattle pens, and irrigated pastures. Every beef animal is bred and born on the property and spends its life on the ranch's rangelands and irrigated pastures, never in a feedlot. Individual cuts are available sporadically at The Honeyman Stores in Prescott and Prescott Valley. Whole and half animals can be reserved directly through the ranch. All meat is processed at Perkinsville Meat Company, an ADA-inspected facility in Chino Valley. Learn more on their About Page.
Broken Horn D Ranch raises Corriente cattle, also known as Criollo, a Spanish-origin breed adapted to hot, arid climates. Cattle meet USDA standards for grass-fed (all forage for the lifetime of the animal), with no hormones, no antibiotics, and no animal by-products ever used. Cattle are handled from horseback in a low-stress manner, and calves are minimally vaccinated. After weaning, beef animals are maintained on irrigated pastures at the headquarters for over two years until they reach slaughter weight. Once processed, all meat is dry-aged a minimum of 16 days before being cut, double-wrapped, frozen, and boxed. Ranch owner Kim McElroy holds Arizona Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) Producer certification (AZBQA: AZ00500). The ranch is a member of the Arizona Cattle Growers Association, Yavapai Cattle Growers, the National Corriente Association, and Yavapai Cowbelles.
