Certified Naturally Grown seasonal farm producing vegetables, fruit, and garlic for Juneau-area markets.
Orsi Organic Produce is a small, seasonal farm located north of Auke Bay near Juneau, Alaska. Founded in 2009 by Master Gardener Joe Orsi, the operation grows more than 2,500 pounds of produce annually from roughly one-third of an acre. Its growing area includes vegetable plots, fruit trees, berry rows, and a high tunnel. Crops include garlic, potatoes, carrots, zucchini, cucumbers, kale, tomatoes, apples, raspberries, and rhubarb, among others. Produce is sold through select local outlets, including the Salt and Soil Online Marketplace and area storefronts. All crops are grown and sold within 15 miles of the farm.
Orsi Organic Produce holds Certified Naturally Grown (CNG) certification and avoids chemical fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and genetically modified crop varieties. Soil inputs such as compost, seaweed, and shells are locally sourced when available. The farm uses cover cropping, mulching, and crop rotations to build soil health and prevent erosion and nutrient runoff. Single-use plastics are avoided in farm operations and packaging; crops are delivered in compostable BioBags, paper bags, or directly into storefront bins. Vegetative waste is composted on site or fed to the farm's chickens. Joe Orsi has trialed a range of cultivation techniques over decades, including plastic solar mulch, fleece row covers, high tunnels, drip irrigation, seaweed mulches, and foliar sprays. The farm also participates in the Alaska Grown program.
