Overview

Farm One Forty is a regenerative farm run by Arlie and Brett LaRoche, who both grew up on mixed farms in rural Saskatchewan and purchased their own farm near Saskatoon in 2007. The farm raises grass-fed beef, grass-fed lamb, and pasture-raised pork, and also produces raw honey, eggs, and an on-farm-grown-and-milled grain mix for pigs and chickens. Products are available through an online store for pick-up or Saskatoon delivery, at select Saskatoon and Moose Jaw retailers, and through a farm store. Farm One Forty also supplies several Saskatoon restaurants and hosts on-farm events and farm dinners. Farm One Forty practices Holistic Management, rotating cattle and sheep through small paddocks so animals graze evenly and manure fertilizes the land in place, eliminating the need to haul waste off-farm. Sheep and cattle are grazed together, as each species prefers different plants, which reduces the need for herbicides. Pigs live outdoors year-round in a six-acre pasture and, along with chickens, serve as a composting crew by rooting through winter bedding packs and processing garden and grocery-store food waste. On the grain side, the farm uses a no-till method, drills seed into the previous year's residue, and plants polycultures of multiple species per field to build resilience and reduce synthetic inputs. The farm avoids pre-harvest glyphosate desiccation, letting crops die down naturally. The grain mix grown and milled on-farm is non-GMO and non-desiccated. Bees are kept on the property to pollinate pastures and gardens, and produce raw honey sold through the farm store.
