Overview
Certified organic farm raising veal, pastured pork, chicken, turkey, and organic grain in New Brunswick.
Becaguimec Farm is a certified organic operation run by John Best and Emily Shapiro on 300 acres of farmland, woods, and wetland along the Becaguimec Stream. The farm's core herd is Holstein and Jersey dairy cattle; their calves form the veal herd and their milk feeds both the calves and the pigs. Products include ethical rose veal, pastured pork, chickens, turkeys, and certified organic grain, straw, and forages. Meat is processed at local abattoirs and sold by the side or whole from the farm, with smaller quantities available at the Woodstock Farm and Craft Market. Piglets and registered breeding stock are also available when supply allows. Learn more on their About Page.
Becaguimec Farm holds certified organic status, and its grains are verified by TransCanada Organic Certification Services (TCO) and brokered locally through the New Brunswick Seed Growers' Cooperative. Animals are kept in comfortable, clean, and low-stress conditions, and medications are used only when genuinely necessary. Pigs have access to pasture in good weather and graze alongside the cattle herd. Calves are raised together in large pens with pasture access in good weather, and are fed milk, hay, and grain. The farm states its certified organic practices reflect a commitment to the health of local streams, forests, and wildlife, while local processing reflects a commitment to neighbouring businesses.
